What is the QCF?

It's the new framework for creating and accrediting qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. QCF Health & Social Care Diplomas will go live in January 2010 replacing the current NVQ system.

It will give a wider range of learners the opportunity to get the qualifications they need, in a way that suits them. QCF qualifications are designed with the help of employers so learners can be assured that they're gaining skills that employers are looking for.

The QCF:
• recognises smaller steps of learning and enables learners to build up qualifications
bit by bit
• helps learners achieve skills and qualifications that meet industry needs
• enables work-based training to be nationally recognised.

Courses Available

There will be Health & Social Care Diplomas (both Adult & Chilren & Young People Pathways) at levels 2 and 3 (equivalent to same level NVQ's) as well as a new 'Hybrid' Level 5 Diploma replacing both the LMC and NVQ Level 4. This means managers only have to take 1 qualification to meet QCF requirements.

Specialist units will be available within the diplomas; sensory services, disabilities, mental health, LD, dementia etc. Once full details of the new Diplomas are published, it is likely that there may be some additional units a manager could take as CPD following on from any Level 4 NVQ they may already hold.

regis: ctv will be providing the following Diplomas when they go live (subject to change)

Adult Pathways
• Health & Social Care Level 2 Diploma
• Health & Social Care Level 3 Diploma
• Health & Social Care Level 5 Diploma
